Oral Surgery: Wisdom Tooth Removal, Bone Grafting, and More
Dr. Patel performs any scope of tooth extraction needed to set the stage for oral health restoration. If you have widespread dental damage and are considering implants or dentures, he can remove all of your teeth to make room for the restorations. We offer oral conscious sedation as well as nitrous oxide to help you remain comfortable and relaxed throughout treatment.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth, or third molars, erupt in adolescence. Not everyone's jaws can accommodate wisdom teeth. They can become impacted or cause surrounding healthy teeth to become misaligned. To prevent these issues, Dr. Patel provides wisdom tooth extraction. He conducts early screenings of his patients to ensure the procedure does not interfere with the nerves or other structures. He offers sedation options to alleviate anxiety and maximize your comfort during surgery.
If you have waited a long time to address missing teeth, or if you have experienced advanced infection, you may have begun to experience jaw bone atrophy. Dr. Patel performs bone grafting to replace lost bone mass, restoring periodontal sockets and pontic sites for dental bridges. Bone grafting can also be a necessary preliminary step to help patients prepare for dental implants. Bone grafting is most often performed to preserve the dental ridge.
Oral Cancer Biopsy
Oral cancer screenings are an important part of your preventative dental care. At your biannual visit, Dr. Patel will look for any oral inflammation or tissue abnormalities. If suspect lesions are present, he will remove a small tissue sample and send it to a lab for analysis. With early diagnosis and treatment, oral cancer patients typically have a favorable prognosis.
By grafting collagen membrane tissue over the site of an extracted tooth or bone graft, the new bone tissue can develop while the membrane prevents the in-growth of gum tissue. Dr. Patel usually performs this procedure in preparation for dental implants, fostering development of a sturdy base for the implant posts. Dr. Patel can perform this procedure as soon as he extracts a tooth, helping you have a faster recovery time and fewer office visits.
