Oral Cancer Screening

At each of your biannual visits, Dr. Patel will conduct a visual exam to look for the signs of oral cancer. The symptoms typically include red or white patches on the gums, irritation, bleeding, and lumps on the soft tissues. If he discovers any tissue irregularities, he will take a biopsy for laboratory analysis.

These regular screenings could save your life; with early diagnosis, oral cancer patients typically have a very good outlook. It is especially important to receive regular screenings if you are over the age of 40, use tobacco regularly, or have a viral infection such as HPV.

Occlusal guards fit over your teeth, and while they will not realign your jaw, they can help to prevent teeth grinding. Splints and guards are custom-made to fit your teeth, and they may be worn only at night or during the day, depending on the severity of your symptoms.

Sedation Dentistry
